  1. Gridlock and getaways

    September 19, 2012 by admin

It’s been a crazy week and it’s only Wednesday.  Yesterday I’m on the Upper East Side at an appointment and when I get out, it’s drizzling so I right away try to flag down a taxi.  I completely forgot that President Obama was in town, holding some meetings then having a big shin dig with Beyonce and JZ (where was my invite?)…in midtown.  I had already flagged down the 3rd taxi and got the same answer, “I no go mid town, Obama here”.   The 4th taxi driver agreed to take me 20 blocks south and I could walk the rest.  That would have been fine but my flip flop got caught in the curb and I went flying forward.  Talk about your armpits on fire.   I took the dogs out for their afternoon pee when a windstorm came up and blew over a huge metal trash can in front of us after which Bernie refused to do any business of any sorts .  Then while walking two blocks to a restaurant with Ken (called 44 and X and it’s delish) we got hit by a passing rainstorm and were completely soaked when we got there.  You’d be surprised how much water can collect in ballet flats.  And if all that weren’t enough, Perez Hilton lives in our building. Hmph.

For a fun escape we took the dogs to the Hudson Highland State Park about an hour away for some great hiking and views of the Hudson.   Ahhhhhhhhh

  2. Why did the geese cross the road?

The weather has been unbelievably beautiful this last week and it ain’t going to last.  So I snuck out of the house without saying a word to Bernie or Niu and headed over to Bike and Roll along the Hudson at 42nd Street.  I picked up a bike and rode up the Hudson, north, past the George Washington Bridge where I saw everything from people playing tennis and basketball, sunbathers, skateboarders, joggers, dog walkers, pot smokers…so much fun!

(don’t miss the lovely sunbather below the tower)

  3. Nine Eleven

After the big 10 year anniversary of 9/11 last year, I think many NY’ers would decide to see this year’s as a turning point. While never being able to forget what happened that day and the loved ones they lost, it was time to look towards the future, move ahead. It speaks to the strength of the community here and you can feel it everywhere.

Around the city people were honoring the day in different ways. I always take a few minutes to remember the coworker our company lost that day. He got out of the tower safely after the plane hit but went back inside to help others and never made it out. The President asked for a moment of silence at 8:46am, boats sailed in unison down the Hudson, crowds gathered at ground zero and the TODAY show decided instead of honoring the moment of silence they would interview Kris Jenner about her breasts, so that was nice.

But this day is also “special” for another reason. It is my sister’s birthday. Happy Birthday beautiful sister Cynthia. You’re a kind, sweet, loving, sister, wife and mother and you are loved by many.

  4. What in the world?

Somebody from Zara must be reading my blog because they are obviously just as obsessed with Bernie and Niu Niu as I am.

Three weeks ago, I bought this blouse.

Then just today I bought this…

Crazy. And I know what you’re thinking. That is not Niu, that is a fox. But as we rescued Niu Niu from China, it’s quite possible she IS a fox. Who knows.

Speaking of dogs, it’s been raining them, and cats, for a few days now and throwing the tennis matches of the US Open off completely. Rain or shine though, every afternoon, the streets of Manhattan empty out as all the NY’ers head out to Flushing Meadows to watch really great tennis.

Finally, a small break from the rain.

That reminds me, is it cocktail time yet?
